AI SEO & Generative Engine Optimisation

Get recommended when customers ask AI who to call
People now ask ChatGPT, Gemini and Google for a plumber, a dentist or an accountant, and get two or three names back. ScaleCurrent is a Sydney AI SEO agency that works on getting your business into those answers. We start with your Google Business Profile and your website, then move to the reviews, listings and local sources these tools read.

A strong Google ranking still matters, and it feeds Google's own AI answers. It does not cover ChatGPT, Perplexity or Copilot, which read other sources too.
12% of Australians now use an AI tool as their main way to look something up online, up from 5% a year earlier. (Telsyte, June 2026)
13.8 million Australians use ChatGPT and 9.1 million use Gemini. (Telsyte, 2026)
45% of consumers used AI to find a local business in the past year, up from 6% the year before. (BrightLocal, 2026)
ChatGPT recommends about 1 in 100 business locations. Google's local map pack shows about 1 in 3. (SOCi Local Visibility Index, 2026)

What AI SEO, GEO and AEO mean

AI SEO is the work of getting a business mentioned, cited or recommended in AI-generated answers: Google's AI Overviews and AI Mode, ChatGPT search, Gemini, Perplexity and Microsoft Copilot.

Generative engine optimisation (GEO) and answer engine optimisation (AEO) are other names for the same work. We call it AI SEO because that is the term most Australians search for.

Google's position is plain. Its guide to optimising for generative AI search, published in May 2026 and updated that July, says AI Overviews and AI Mode are built on the same ranking and quality systems as ordinary search, and that from Google's side GEO and AEO are still SEO. Traditional SEO has not been replaced. Crawlable pages, useful content and real expertise decide whether Google's AI can use your site at all.

What changes is the number of places that have to be right. ChatGPT, Perplexity and Copilot also read Bing, review platforms, directories and "best of" pages. For a local business, AI search visibility depends on all of those agreeing about who you are, what you do and where you work.

What Google says you can skip

The same guide lists tactics that make no difference to Google's AI results. We don't charge for any of them.

  • llms.txt files. Google Search ignores them.
  • “Chunking” pages into small pieces for AI. Google says its systems already find the relevant passage on a normal page.
  • Rewriting content in a special AI-friendly style, or chasing every long-tail keyword variation.
  • AI-specific schema. Structured data still earns rich results, and we use it for that, but no special markup exists for AI answers.
  • Bought or fake mentions. Google’s spam systems apply to AI answers as well.

If a GEO quote you have received is mostly made of these, ask what else the fee covers.

How AI decides who to name

Your website

It is the source AI cites first when it names a business. If your site is vague about what you do, where you work and what it costs, AI has nothing to quote.

Reviews

AI gives your star rating and review count as its reason for listing you. Volume and recent reviews both count.

The sources each engine trusts

ChatGPT leans on "best of" lists and aggregator sites. Gemini and Google AI lean on your Google Business Profile and review platforms. Perplexity reads Hipages, Airtasker and community groups. One listing does not cover all of them.

Consistency

If your name, phone, address or services differ between listings, AI will not risk naming you.

Signs your business needs AI SEO

  • You show in Google’s map pack, but ChatGPT names three competitors and leaves you out.
  • AI gives out an old phone number, the wrong hours or a service you no longer offer.
  • Your name, address or phone number differs between Google, Bing, Apple and the directories.
  • The businesses being named have more reviews than you, or more recent ones.
  • Your website never states your suburbs, services or rough prices, so AI has nothing to quote.
  • You were quoted for GEO or AEO and could not tell what the work was.

What we do

01

Measure where you stand

We ask ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity and Copilot 40 questions your customers ask, such as "who is a reliable emergency plumber in Parramatta?" or "which Chatswood dentist offers payment plans?". We record which businesses each engine names, in what order, and which pages it cites. AI answers vary from run to run, so every answer is saved with its date and engine, and the same questions are asked again each month.
02

Fix your listings

Google Business Profile, Bing Places, Apple Business Connect and the Australian directories AI reads. One version of your name, address, phone, hours and services, everywhere.
03

Build reviews

A simple review request after each job and a reply to every review, naming the service and suburb where it reads naturally. We never gate, script or pay for reviews.
04

Get you onto the pages AI cites

Local "best of" lists, directories, industry bodies and partner pages. Genuine listings and earned mentions only. Where a business needs wider coverage, this connects to our local link outreach work.
05

Make your website quotable

Service and area pages that state what you do, where, and roughly what it costs, plus an FAQ built from questions customers really ask. We check the technical basics Google's AI depends on: pages indexed, nothing blocked in robots.txt, quick to load on a phone, and AI crawlers allowed in. Suburb pages get written only where there is something specific to say about that area, because near-identical location pages fall under Google's spam policies.
06

Report every month

Which questions name you, which sources cite you, calls and direction requests from your profile, visits from ChatGPT and Perplexity, and your impressions in Search Console's Generative AI performance report.

How the first 90 days run

01

Week 1

The free check or the Search Audit. You get the AI answers, the gaps and a 90-day plan.
02

Weeks 2 to 4

Listings corrected, Google Business Profile completed, review requests switched on.
03

Months 2 and 3

Service pages improved, and outreach to the sources AI already cites in your category.
04

End of month 3

The same 40 questions asked again, so you can compare before and after and decide whether to continue.

What the check looks like

One page. For each question you see the exact wording we asked, the engine, the date, the businesses named in order and the pages cited. Below that: where your details disagree across listings, how your review count and recency compare with the businesses being named, and the fixes in priority order. It is a record of what the AI said, so you can repeat any question yourself and check our work.

Pricing

Free AI visibility check

10 questions, 3 engines, one page showing who gets recommended in your suburb and whether it is you. No obligation.

Search Audit, $790

One audit covering both sides: 40 questions across four AI engines, a Google Business Profile and listings audit, your map position across your service area, a website check, a comparison against three competitors and a 90-day plan. Yours to keep, whether you continue with us or not. Credited against your first month if you do.

Local, $990 a month + AI SEO add-on $390

For a business with one location and one main service area: most trades and home services. The plan itself is local SEO, about six hours a month covering profile and listing upkeep, your review system and replies, one service or area page improved, and the monthly report. The AI SEO add-on brings the 40 questions across four engines, outreach to two sources those engines cite, and the AI section of your report.

Growth, $1,790 a month + AI SEO add-on $590

For clinics, professional services and any business with several services or suburbs. About twelve hours a month of local SEO, plus one cost guide or FAQ article. The AI SEO add-on adds outreach to five AI-cited sources and competitor tracking across all four engines.
Both plans are month to month after the first three months. Prices exclude GST.

Built for local service businesses

Trades and home services: plumbers, electricians, air-conditioning, roofing, cleaning. Clinics: dental, physio, vet, allied health. Professional services: accountants, lawyers, mortgage brokers, real estate agents. We are based in Sydney. The work is remote, so we take clients across Australia.

Why ScaleCurrent

We run our own online businesses across Shopify and marketplaces, so we judge work by leads and revenue, not rankings. Pricing is set for local businesses, not enterprise budgets, and each plan states the hours behind it. We follow Google's published guidance and won't bill you for tactics it says do nothing. You see the evidence in every report: the actual AI answers, before and after.

This service launched in 2026, and we won't show you case studies we don't have. The first will go on this site once clients finish their first 90 days.

Questions

Straight answers before you book a call.

No. Google says AI Overviews and AI Mode run on the same ranking systems as ordinary search, so a site that is hard to crawl or thin on detail gets left out of both. AI SEO adds to traditional SEO: the same foundations, plus the listings, reviews and third-party sources that ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity read.

No, and be wary of anyone who says they can. AI answers change from one run to the next. What we can do is get you into the sources every engine draws from, then show you the before and after.

Fixes to your profile and listings usually show in Gemini and Google AI within weeks. ChatGPT and Perplexity depend on third-party pages citing you, which takes longer. Allow three to six months for a clear shift.

Local SEO targets the Google map pack and rankings. AI SEO covers that and adds Bing (which feeds ChatGPT), Apple, review platforms and the “best of” pages AI reads. A business can rank well on Google and still be missing from ChatGPT’s answer, which is why we test each engine separately.

By asking. We put the same customer questions to each engine every month and log who is named and which pages are cited. For Google we add Search Console’s Generative AI performance report, and for ChatGPT and Perplexity we track referral visits in your analytics. No outside tool can see inside these systems, so we report what the engines said, not a made-up score.

Local if you serve one area with one main service. Growth if you have several services, several suburbs, or you’re in a category where competitors already invest heavily, such as dental or legal. The free check will tell you which.

Usually not. You need clear pages for each service and area, and a site AI crawlers can read. We tell you in the audit if anything more is needed. Larger technical problems are handled in the Search Audit.

Google Business Profile work is included in both local SEO plans, so we don’t offer it on its own.

Yes. Everything is delivered remotely, so location does not affect the work.
